The Old Head of Kinsale is home to a World-Class Golf Course. The brainchild of John and Patrick O’Connor, the Club has developed into one of the most recognised and sought after golf experiences anywhere on earth.

Designed and constructed by a unique team, Ron Kirby – former designer at Jack Nicklaus’s Golf Design Services, Paddy Merrigan – Australian course architect and agronomist, Liam Higgins – one of Ireland’s best known golf professionals currently on the Seniors Tour, the late Eddie Hackett – former Irish golf professional and golf course designer, the late Dr. Joe Carr – Ireland’s most successful international amateur golfer and finally, Haulie O’Shea – building contractor.

With a bunker renovation project planned for Autumn 2012 Envirosports Ltd were asked by Old Head to build a trial EnviroBunker in April 2012. The Envirosports Team worked closely with Architect Ron Kirby to produce a custom designed bunker that may be used as a template for future projects at Old Head.

Golf course architect David John Krause designed a fair and most attractive championship course with 90.000 m² of water and 96 bunkers. Played through a typical Knick landscape. Today it is one of the three most challenging golf courses in Schleswig-Holstein.

David Krause past president of Institute of European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA), contacted Envirosports to discuss trialling EnviroBunker on some of the courses he has designed in Germany. Apeldor is the first of 3 planned projects, and was completed under the keen eye of David, who was more than happy to get his hands dirty while assisting our staff to build at Apeldor.

The results are clear for all to see and both Course owner, Dieter Worms and David Krause were in agreement that the end result exceeded their expectations.

Swords is a traditional Parkland Course in Dublin Ireland. Founded in 1991 Swords GC was originally a 9 hole course with the Broadmeadow River as a significant feature. It was extended to 18 holes in 1996 and underwent a further alteration with the addition of 6 new holes in 2003 when the course was redesigned during the development of Roganstown Golf Club

Envirosports Ltd sent a small team to renovate 3 bunkers in April 2012. Such was the success of the project and the confidence instilled in the local staff, that whilst our team were still on site Swords GC decided to re-build an additional bunker that had been filled in and taken out of play due to maintenance issues. This brand new old bunker is now pride of place on the golf course.

Like the Links of St Andrews, Ramsey Golf Club (Cambridgeshire) is situated in the centre of town, carefully concealed by the High Street the first tee and the eighteenth green are less than a nine iron away. This seclusion makes Ramsey Golf Club one of Cambridgeshire’s best kept secrets
Envirobunker was constructed at Ramsey GC in April 2012. Training was provided to the local green staff who worked alongside Envirosports staff on this initial project.
The outcome, Ramsey GC are now making financial plans to begin a rolling re-construction program using EnviroBunker over the next few years.

Swaffham Golf Club was established in 1922 as a 9 hole course. In September 2001 an additional 9 holes were opened, which transformed the course into an attractive and demanding 18 holes. Most of the new holes were carved out of an area of mature woodland and have blended well with the older part of the course
Envirosports Ltd were commissioned to re-construct several bunkers in a week long project in March 2012 having met representatives from Swaffam GC at the Harrogate BTME show.
Training of greens staff was a key element of the week long project and was vital to ensure that Swffam GC would be in a position to build future bunkers under licence.

The par 70, 6,184 yard golf course, enjoying stunning views over the sea, is not actually a links, but an 18-hole parkland course on undulating ground at the eastern edge of Cosmeston lakes country park. With narrow wood-lined fairways, well-guarded greens, water hazards and over eighty strategic bunkers, it offers a stern but fair test to golfers at all levels.
An initial project was completed in November 2011 which included the training of local staff, Glamorganshire GC has since built a number of bunkers under licence and continue to re-construct their bunkers in an on-going project. The hybrid design style constructed at Glamorganshire is becoming the style of choice for other parkland and inland courses.

Luffness New an Open Championship Qualifying Course Commissioned EnviroBunker in March 2012.
Luffness new recently commissioned EnviroBunker on their 10th hole with fantastic results. The Envirosports team worked with the Luffness New green staff to re-construct the bunker in a day. The results a stunning looking pot bunker that has already been met with rave reviews.

Head Greenkeeper David Coull commented “I really like it, my staff really like it and most importantly the members are extremely impressed. None of them suspect that it is synthetic and their impression is that we’ve had some really good turf in to re-construct this bunker in the same way as we have in the past. We will monitor this bunker over the coming months with the view to starting a rolling program of annual renovation works using EnviroBunker from this Autumn onwards”
The staff at Luffness were a pleasure to work with and certainly made a significant contribution to this particular build. Another great susses story for EnviroBunker.

The training exercise was a big hit with the green staff, course manager Murree Long commented “The training provided was first class and definitely necessary for our staff. The Envirosports team took their time to ensure our staff developed their building skills and were able to produce some stunning looking bunkers at the same time. Everyone associated with the club is incredibly impressed with the bunkers and in our recent AGM many positive comments were received from the floor, the main thing being a desire to see all our bunkers re-built using EnviroBunker. We will be meeting to plan and budget for this in the very near future and it is our intention to begin a wider scale project this Autumn time, if not before”

A delightful moorland course, designed by Herbert Fowler. It has outstanding views across Dartmoor and over Cornwall and is a very natural course, with Dartmoor ponies and cattle sharing the fairways. The course has been host to many top quality competitions, including the Men’s Senior Amateur Championships in 2006.
